I am now among loved ones and friends who have preceded me. I passed away on May 23, 2017 at 93 years of age. I had a good life. I had joys and disappointments and frustrations and the love and help of many along the way. I was born January 14, 1924 on a farm near Lockridge, Lockridge, Iowa in Jefferson County. Most of my school years were in Agency, Iowa. Upon graduation from high school, I enrolled at Iowa Wesleyan College. While there, I joined the Navy and participated in the V-12 program. After midshipmen school, I received a commission of Ensign and served aboard LST 458 in the South Pacific. Upon discharge, I enrolled at Iowa State University in engineering, graduated graduated and received employment at the John Deere Des Moines Works becoming a supervisor in the process and tooling department. After thirty years, I retired. I met Norma Fidler at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines, and we were married in Adel in 1952. Norma and I were blessed with four children: Mark (Maribeth) Schillerstrom, Roger (Susan) Schil- lerstrom, Marie (Cliff) Sample, and Laura (Craig) Strayer. I am survived by seven grand-children, six great-grandchildren, and a brother, Ellsworth Carrol of Texas. Three sisters, Laurel, Lorene, and Lois preceded me in death. May the good Lord bless you, and may you enjoy all of your living days; they go fast. Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday May 31, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Des Moines with visitation 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contributions contributions to Wesley Life Hospice 5508 N.W 88th Street. Johnston, IA 50131. MERL STEPHEN SCHILLERSTROM West Des Moines
