DES MOINES SUNDAY REGISTER Aug. 3,.1969 Who's Having A Revolution? By Kathryn Love SIMPLY scandalous the way men are trying to make ours a single standard society. They want freedom, they want the same rights as women. Already they have taken over every job in President Nixon's Cabinet. They are demanding recognition with 09 as cooks, so far limited to charred steaks, but so sooner LOVE or later they'll be trying a floating custard.

They even are being so rash as to advocate male stenographers, carhops and jockeys, Gentlemen have the audacity to smoke women's very own thin cigarettes. With 1 no sense of shame, they steal a wife's razor and vote against her candidates. Men are appearing in ladies' bell-bottom trousers, they wear long stockings, and at the beach you see them in topless bathing suits. This madness has to stop. From time immemorial, man's place has been in the office.

South ruffed, drew three deplorable rounds of trumps and ruffed another club. It's hard to know what South hoped to accomplish by this regrettable line of play. Perhaps it is charitable to suppose that South had anything at all in mind.

In any case, South eventually lost three hearts and was down one. After ruffing the second' club South should lead a heart. If the opponents defend feebly, South can ruff a heart in dummy and then draw trumps. If East takes the first heart and returns a low club, South WISH YOU Long distance is the next best anywhere in 48 states for or all day Saturday and Sunday, Ch Characteristics of a Safe Driver Dorothy CHEER UP, lecture on been digging up difference between regular highway MRS. DOROTHY RICKER enough to do to But there is looking out for Miss Lindsey Ricker's TIPS FOR TEENS THIS is not going to be another long-faced safe driving for teen-agers.

Instead, I have information on what it takes to make the so-so drivers and the real experts in driving. Materials supplied by the National Safety Council and state highway patrols reveal some solid reasons why some drivers are clunkers who frequently get into driving trouble while others are sharp. Know what the principal difference is? The good drivers can think "double." They can think for themselves and for the other fellow, too! Perhaps it may seem a little corny to repeat that "look out for the other fellow" bit. It is only natural to say, "Heck, let the other guy look out for himself I've got take care of my own driving!" a hidden gimmick in the idea. When you are the other drivers, you are really taking care Miss Payne Miss Olesen Announce Betrothals LINDSEY-ALMOND Mary Pearl Lindsey, 2123 S.W.

Special Road Situations THE PROS OF highway driving point out several typical road situations which require special watching, since they are frequent causes of serious accidents. The list begins with meeting another car at an intersection when you are on the main thoroughfare and you expect to have the right of way.

As you go sailing along at a rather high but legal speed, the other car, approaching you from the side, suddenly swings out in front of you the other driver failed to heed a stop sign! The pros always make allowance for that possibility and are always ready to brake quickly taking nothing for granted. Another frequent cause of traffic accidents is following too closely. When another driver follows you too closely on the highway use a simple but effective stunt to make him fall back. Without changing your speed touch your brake pedal a couple of times, just enough to make your stop lights flash. Miss Madron Miss Mauch of Des Plaines, Madron and her students at Open She is emWhitings' Music The following driver won't know whether you are thinking of stopping or what you plan to do so, in nearly every instance, he will ease off and give you more room.

When this stunt fails the best plan is to slow down, allowing the other er car to pass you. Incidentally, when you are following another car, pay close attention to what is ahead of that other car perhaps a youngster wobbling around on a bike, or another car about to make a left turn, or a pedestrian starting across the street. Situations like these can develop suddenly, causing emergency action by the driver ahead of you. If you are ready for the possible emergencies before they happen, you can usually avoid getting into a jam. Passing: Very Important CARS on the highway is a maneuver which good drivers consider very important in spite of its apparent simplicity.

Accidents frequently occur while passing and in practically every instance it is because one of the drivers used poor judgment. When another car passes you, the pros say, be prepared for him to pull back in front of you while still too close, forcing you to veer or slam on your brakes. You cannot stop another driver from doing this, not if you want to continue living, but you can prevent him from pitching you into a crash by giving him room. When planning to pass another car, remember that you will need about the length of a football field to complete the pass if the other car is traveling about 50 miles per hour. If the other car is going 60 you will need half again as much room.

Experts say you must be certain the way is clear plenty far ahead to make a pass safely. In most cases, the rules of common sense and common courtesy, carefully observed, will make anyone drive like a pro. nounce the engagement of their daughter, Kathie Ann, and Allen Eugene Cope, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Cope, 3907 Sixteenth st.

And if East wins in order to return a low club again, South ruffs for the third time. Now South the ace of spades, overtakes the queen with dummy's king of spades and draws the last trump with the nine. South discards his last heart on dummy's nine of spades (since by this time South is out of trumps), and the rest is easy. Even if East wins the first trick with the jack of clubs to return a trump, South wins and leads a heart.

East wins and leads another trump, but South abandons trumps and runs the diamonds. West must follow suit, and East is out of trumps. South discards dummy's last heart on the fourth diamond and then can ruff a heart in dummy. Now he is sure of 10 tricks. When you see a man in such a hurry to draw trumps you begin to wonder if there was even one bridge player in Noah's Ark.

Question As dealer, you hold: 4-K 94 Q7 4-K 8763. What do you say? Answer: Bid one club or pass. This is a borderline case, and some experts would bid, while other would pass.
