'Night' Game; 2. No Drill in Bowl PASADENA, CAL. (AP) -Michigan State football coach Biggie Munn had a couple of small worries to pester him Wednesday as he prepared for his Rose Bowl showdown with U. C. L.

A. These were: 1. Michigan State won't be allowed a workout Thursday on the Rose Bowl turf. 2. Munn just realized Wednesday that probably most of the third quarter and assuredly the fourth period will be played under lights.

On the first point, Munn asked for a Thursday workout at the Rose Bowl. He likes to accustom his team to any strange setting and to let them get the feel of the turf. "I didn't think it was an unreasonable request," he said. Not the Custom. Munn received a polite but firm "no" and didn't make an issue of it.

He was told by Lathrop Leishman, chairman of the Tournament of Roses football committee, that it just wasn't the custom because the field was supposed to be in top shape for the game. The squad will still be allowed a fast peek at the field, however. On the second point, Munn realized belatedly that much of the second half of the game might be played under lights. This particular M. S.

C. squad has never operated under the ares. And white footballs aren't allowed. U. C.

L. A. has played several of its games with the artificial lighting and presumably would have a slight advantage in that respect. Munn quickly shifted practice plans give long late afternoon evening drill hind under the arcs. U.

C. L. A. Coach Red Sanders, meanwhile, has gone into a hotel hideout with his squad. The team has shifted to the Town House in Los Angeles with the idea of getting the squad together to think and operate as a unit for the game.

Seeks Reversal Of Court Ruling John Michael asked the Iowa supreme court Wednesday to reverse a Boone County district court decision holding that his son, Loran Andrew, 34, is no longer eligible for a state blind pension and that the father is liable for the cost of Loran's care in the Clarinda Mental Health Institute. Loran Andrew Michael was born blind and was paid $20.50 a month state blind pension from 1938 to 1940. After his commitment to the mental health institute at Clarinda on Aug. 3, 1940, however, the Boone County board of social welfare, acting on advice of the state board of social welfare, discontinued the pension.

The mental health institute later billed Michael's father for $2,016 for Loran Andrew's care and keep from Mar. 31, 1950, to Sept. 30, 1952. Michael asks that District Judge Harvey Uhlenhopp's decision be set aside, the blind pension be restored and Loran Michael's care at the mental health institute be ruled a liability of Boone County. A Brewer Is Milwaukee's Sports King MILWAUKEE, WIS. (U.P.) All-America football players usually wind up with pretty good jobs after they get out of school, but few have done better than Fred Miller who played at Notre Dame from 1926 to 1929. Miller took over his family's brewing business.

Miller was an all-America tackle at Notre Dame and was captain of the Fighting Irish in 1928 and 1929. He was graduated cum laude with the highest scholastic average ever attained by a Notre Dame athletic letter winner. But the 47-year-old businessman never lost his enthusiasm for athletics and backs a number of professional and amateur sports in Wisconsin. He is a director of both the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Braves. He put up most of the money which brought the Milwaukee Hawks pro basketball team to the city.

Braves Directors. Although he is on the Braves' board of directors, Miller has no financial interest in the club. However, he tried on several occasions to purchase a major league franchise and move it to Milwaukee before Lou Perini moved his Braves here from Boston last spring. Miller was reported to have offered Fred Saigh, former owner of the St. Louis Cardinals, "in excess of $3,000,000" for the Cards so he could move the club to Milwaukee.

Miller also made several unsuccessful attempts to buy the St. Louis Browns franchise which recently was shifted to Baltimore. Helps Irish. Miller still finds some time for his favorite game, football. He is officially an assistant coach of Notre Dame and spends one or two days a week in South Bend helping head coach Frank Leahy during the football season.

He also has an added interest in the Notre Dame team now. One of Miller's eight children, Fred, was named to the high school all-American team in 1951 and now is on the Notre Dame squad where he hopes to follow in his father's footsteps.
