Worldwide Communion day is observed annually on the first Sunday in October. The World Council of Churches and the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America are sponsors of the observance, started several years ago. The holy communion sacrament will have a special significance this Sunday, when churches throughout the world demonstrate their common bond of faith through this medium It is said that at every hour during the day, someone, somewhere in the world, will be kneeling at the Communion altar.

A Des Moines minister, the Rev. A. Douglas Steffenson, of Gatchel Methodist church, wrote a poem of four stanzas about holy communion that is be'mg used on most Methodist church Sunday bulletins throughout the country. In its second annual observance of October as "Go to Church" month, the Des Moines Ministerial association is urging all persons to get into the habit of regular church attendance. Dr.

C. Clifford Bacon, president of the ministerial association, issued this statement Saturday in support of "Go to Church" month: "One of the good features of the city of Des Moines is the fine spirit among the different faiths and the excellent co-operation among churches of different denominations. "Go to Church month is used by the Des Moines Ministerial association in an endeavor to be mutually helpful and demonstrate DES Bacon and Rev. Lawrence B. Beals.

Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown Sunday, concluding at sundown Monday for Reform Jews and at sundown Tuesday for Conservative and Orthodox Jews. With the New Year, 10 days of penitence and prayer begin. It is a period of self-examination, when the Jews give serious thought to past actions and make resolutions to lead better lives in the future. The 10 days end with the Day of Atonement, most solemn day of the year on the Jewish calendar. A traditional feature of Rosh Hashana services Monday and Tuesday is the blowing of the shofar or ram's horn, as a clarion call to the conscience, when the listener searches his heart and analyzes his motives and conduct.

Rosh Hashma services in Des Moines synagogues have been announced as follows: Tifereth Israel, Polk and Kingman boulevards Rabbi Irving A. Weingart, assisted by Cantor Louis A. Aronow. Services 8:15 p. m.

Stubbs has missed attending church only three times in 15 jears. (The absences were in September, 1947, when he made a trip to California.) Stubbs arrives at church at 8i'I0 a. to greet comers to the early 8:45 a. ni. service, and remains through the 11 a.

Why Go To Church? By Dr. Frank D. Slutz. Dayton, Ohio. The church is a living stream that has come down through the centuries; but today you and I make that stream what it is.

We, members of the church, if we really belong to it, are part of a hearty fellowship; for we are united by a bond of comradeship with God and with one another. We are the ambassadors of the kingdom of God. We must share our power, our joy, our helpfulness, our faith, our vision with one another. All great living is social, not individual. All straight thinking is social achievement.

No one can think accurately if he has divorced himself from others. The Rev. William Turnwall, ex ecutive secretary of the Baptist General Conference of America, will speak at all services Sunday at Penn Avenue Baptist church in observance of Rally day.
