LONDON, ENGLAND UP) A titled Indian woman, in evidence presented to the privy council Thursday, based her claim to widowhood and an immense fortune on a human bone. She said she carried it from her husband's alleged funeral pyre 37 years ago.

The testimony was part of a voluminous court record of a 25-year-old lawsuit for a domain in India as large as England, and it was only one phase of one of the strangest cases ever brought before the empire's highest tribunal. Philadelphia's faithful followers, long familiar with the dreary darkness of the dungeon, were pinning their hopes today on a pair of proven prewar profes-sinals to make them "see the liSht." The long-suffering souls of the city of brotherly love have seen their two favorites the Athletics and Phillies finish in the big league basements 16 times in the last 11 years. They feel that if anyone can drag these perennial patsies out of the quagmire it is Samuel Blake Chapman and Frank Andrew McCormick.

Chapman, back In the A's outfield after serving four years in the naval air corps, has been the big gun of the Mackmen so-called attack. Two casts later I started to retrieve my fly when I got a solid hit. It didn't take long to learn it was a rainbow when the fish came dancing to the surface. He was a good one, too. Action came fast as he darted back and forth across the pool, throwing in a few personal appearances on the surface for good measure. A 17-Inch Trout.

jr. cnamDer or commerce Box 784, Iowa City, Ia. THE trout season got off to a flying start Wednesday 1n Backbone State park at least. Everybody was catching fish the first two hours, then the trout began to get wise. During those first two hours state creel census clerks checked 135 fishermen in the park who had a total of 544 fish, or an average of four fish per person.

The check included men, women and children. 19 Catch Their Limit. Nineteen of the 135 anglers had their limit of eight trout and several had caught them within a half hour after the opening at 5 a. m. Several of the trout ran from to nearly 5 pounds.

Mayor H. L. Moorhea'd of Branch hooked the largest one, a rainbow measuring 21 inches. But that honor narrowly missed going to Mrs. Lyle Shoot of Manchester who had hooked and lost the same fish 15 minutes earlier.

Mrs. Shoot's broken leader and hook still were in the rainbow's jaws when Moorhead tempted him with a worm. On his first trout fishing expedition, Alfred Watson of Whit-tier landed a 17-incher weighing nearly three pounds and went on to catch his limit. With Beefsteak. And Mrs.

William Brubaker of Waterloo caught a 4-pound rainbow on a piece of beefsteak (wonder where she got A larger than usual per cent of the anglers were women. Many were young wives accompanying husbands that were just out of the service. Combat boots, field jackets, khaki trousers, and various parts of G.I. wearing apparel were popular. For many of the men it was their first opportunity to fish in several years and they certainly were enjoying it.

After spending a half-day at Backbone park near Strawberry Point I came across Dr. A. J. Murphy of Winthrop with four brook trout measuring from 12 to 14 inches each. He said he had caught them in GEORGIA'S permanents given in any length of hair.

Surprising even Cronin, his starting quartet of Hughson, Joe Dobson, Mickey Harris and Dave (Boo) Ferriss, now is in the midst of a six-game winning streak in which none has required relief. Moreover they lead both leagues In winning completed games with 10 to date, three more than the Yankees and Cardinals, who each have played seven in which the starter has needed no relief. Hughson and Harris each have pitched three complete games while Ferriss and Dob-son have turned in two apiece. Ferriss, the drawling righthander from Shaw, pitched one of the best games of his career Wednesday, topping the visiting Tigers, 13-1 on four hits while the Red Sox were doing some characteristic slugging against three Detroit pitchers. Early Lead.

Alton Benton, the usually brilliant spring pitcher for the Tigers, was touched for four straight hits in the first inning before he could retire a batter. Boston made four runs in the first, three in the second and one in the third. George Metkovich with a triple and three singles for a perfect day at bat, led the winners. Ferriss didn't yield a hit after the fifth. Must be experienced.
