DAVID JAMES BENSON Dallas Center Dr. David Benson, 63, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007 from complications following heart surgery at Mercy Heart Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Dallas Center United Methodist Church.

A private burial service will be held later at Rose Hill Cemetery in Lamoni. Dave was born November 23, 1943 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Dr. Roy and Mable Benson. He graduated from Lamoni High School in 1961, attended Graceland College (1961 to 1964), and I graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Dentistry in 1968. Dave served in the US Navy from 1966 to 1970 and was stationed in Guam.

He was also a member of the Naval Reserves as a 2nd Lt. Commander in Seabees Unit 7, Battalion 25-07 from 1971 to 1976. Dave started his dental practice in Leon, Iowa from 1970 to 1977. He then moved his dental practice to Des Moines in 1977; he also worked for Dr. Craven and most recently practiced at Southside Dental with Dr.

Keith Colwell. David is survived by his wife of 20 years, Diane Benson of Dallas Center; father Dr. Roy Benson of Lamoni; siblings, Carolyn Dietz of Del Ray Beach, FL, Dr. Robert (Heidi) Benson of Colfax, Gregory (Grace) Benson of Paoli, OK, and Julie (Stan) Rupe of Cordon; his children, Shelly (Stephen) Dunn of Fremont, CA, Kimberly (Jim) Fitzgerald of San Rafael, CA, Nicole (Jim) Zastrow of Urbandale, Mata Morton of Grimes, Justin (Nicole) Smith of Van Meter, Brett (Kelly) Smith of Dexter, and McKenzie Benson and her partner Tyler Lawrence of Dallas Center; his grandchildren, Lauren, Kennady, Monica, Natalie, Joslynn, Amidy, Landen, and Seth; and his dogs, Luther, Riley, and Daisy. David was preceded in death by his sons Andrew and Jason, his mother Mable Benson, and his brother-in-law Norman Dietz.

David was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed many hobbies such as golfing, bowling, hunting, and fishing. He actively assisted and coached his kids in their various sports. The Iowa Hawkeyes were his favorite team and he faithfully attended the games; the Philadelphia Phillies were a close second. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends. Visitation begins after 3 p.m.

Wednesday at Iles Funeral Homes-Brandt Chapel in Dallas Center where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Dallas Center Little League Baseball and Pheasants Forever. ILES Brandt Chapel 1301 Ash, Dallas Center JANET THOMPSON Des Moines Janet Thompson, 71, of Des Moines passed away at her home on Saturday, November 10, 2007. The visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

There will be a graveside service held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rising Sun Cemetery. Janet is survived by her children; Wilberta Morris, Jerry Hill, Patrick (Tammy) Thompson, and Billie "Amanda" (Richard) Kemmer. Her eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Janet is preceded in death by her husband; William Thompson, daughter; Pauline LaMotte, and sons; Clarence and William Jr.

ALICE H. COOK Cambridge Alice H. Cook, 96, died Sunday in Nevada, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial in Cambridge IA MARIE C. (KOCH) HOFER LLOYD Granger Marie C. (Koch) Hofer Lloyd, 85, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2007, in Granger, Iowa.

Marie lived most of her adult life in McGregor, IA, moving to Des Moines in 2002 to be nearer to family. Marie was born in Petersburg, NE on February 2, 1922 to Frank and Catherine (Halbur) Koch. After high school, Marie moved with a brother to Lamont, IA where she met and married Carl Dale Hofer. In 1946, she and Carl opened an appliance and business in McGregor, where Marie spent the next 56 years. After Carl's death in 1959, Marie continued the business and raising the three children from that marriage.

In 1961, Marie married Cyril J. Lloyd. He passed away in 1997. Together they had two children and operated Lloyds' Radio and TV in McGregor until the business was sold in 1986 to Triax Communications. Marie was a lifelong member of St.

Mary's Catholic Church and was a charter member of the McGregor chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America, the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a active member of the St. Mary's Women's Guild. Marie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John, Frank, Joseph, Louis, Alfred, and Andrew, and sisters Theresa Magsamen and Anna Magsamen. She will be missed by five children, Lavonne (Jim) Shedivy of Longboat Key, Leon (Mary Jo) Hofer of West Des Moines, Larry (Blanca) Hofer of Arvada, Mary Ann Lloyd Penza of Beaverton, and James (Tricia) Lloyd of Urbandale, IA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St.

Mary's Catholic Church in McGregor on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. A visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m., with a rosary service at 4 p.m., Friday evening at the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thornburg Funeral Services of McGregor.

Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or to the Catholic Daughters of America. Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel DUANE L. "BUD" MARSH Adel Duane "Bud" Marsh, age 80, died Sunday, November 11, 2007, at his home in Adel, Iowa. A visitation and celebration of his life will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., on Wednesday, November 14, at 22110 Laredo Trail in Adel. Mr.

Marsh spent most of his life in central Iowa where he was employed in the farm implement business. In retirement, he spent most of his time enjoying life with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Bud will be missed by his three sons, Duane (Evelyn) of Waukee, David (Charlene) of Adel, Danny (JoCindy) of Indianola, and daughter, Carol (Steve) Cornelison of Omaha, NE; twelve grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers Elwyn of Polk City, Kenny of Adel and sisters, Verna Wisner of Arizona, Deloris Burkhart of Mapleton, Iowa and Glennys Copeland of Detroit, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Lena; brother, Floyd and three sisters, Viola Hauschildt, Marcella Jones, and Carol. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa or to the American Cancer Society.

Brooks Funeral Care University Chapel THOMAS JAMES CLARKE, JR. Des Moines Thomas J. Clarke, 39, died Saturday. Services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday, at Dunn's Funeral Home where a vigil service will begin at 6 p.m.

ILES Dunn's Chapel 2121 Grand Ave. DENICE MADONNA NIEDERHAUSER Eagle Grove Denice Madonna Niederhauser, the daughter of George and Helen (Rave) Kueter, was born August 18, 1933, in Bellevue, Iowa. Denice graduated from Bernard High School in 1951. She worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids before her marriage. On April 28, 1956, Denice was united in marriage with Gerald "Jerry" Niederhauser at Bernard, the couple moved to Eagle Grove in 1968.

Denice was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed raising children, her family was a true priority. After the children started school, Denice worked as a secretary in the Eagle Grove School District for 20 years, retiring in 1996. Denice was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove and the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. Denice also volunteered in the, Eagle Grove community.

Denice passed away Sunday, November 11, 2007, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, at the age of 74 years. She will long be remembered for her fighting spirit and determination. Denice was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Wayne Kueter. Survivors include her husband, Jerry Niederhauser of Eagle Grove; four sons, Jim Niederhauser and wife Teresa of West Des Moines, Tom Niederhauser and wife Missie of Eagle Grove, Dan Niederhauser and wife Cari of Spring Valley, Ill and Gary Niederhauser of Urbandale; 6 grandchildren, Steven, Abby, Kelsi, Tyler, April and Blair; two step-grandchildren, Bryan Dayton and wife Shannon and Jeremy Dayton; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Derek and Caden Dayton; brother, Robert Kueter and wife Rita of Dubuque and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove with Father Chris Podhajsky officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with a Rosary at 4 p.m. L.

ANN POOLE Lincoln, NE L. Ann Poole, 84, died November 10, 2007, in Lincoln, NE. The Lord took her hand and brought her home Saturday. Ann was an Elementary teacher for 35 years, and a Member of St. Marks UMC.

She was selected to be a guidance Counselor and retired from the Teacher Association, Tri T's. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved animals and traveling. She was a avid fisher person, and enjoyed reading, and had a lifelong sense of humor, and enjoyed playing bridge. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Max Poole; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Jo Poole, Lincoln; granddaughters, Abby and Allison Poole; daughter and son-inlaw, Suzon and Charles Ahern, Cupertino, CA; grandson, Patrick Ahern. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Ermil.

Services will be held Thursday November 15, 2007, 12 Noon at the United Methodist Church in Bayard, IA. She will be cremated. No viewing or visitation. Burial at the Bayard, IA. Memorials may be made to St.

Peppers, 92, passed away November 9, 2007 at Senior Suites of Urbandale. Ernst Funeral Home SISTER MARY FRANCES COMITO Johnston Johnston Sister Mary Frances Comito, 88, died Sunday, November 11, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2007 at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport, IA.

Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Davenport. Frances Louise Comito was born in Dayton, OH on April 6, 1919, the daughter of Otto and Mary Comito. Her education background includes Ottumwa Heights College, Ottumwa, IA, AA in Education, 1944; Marycrest College, Davenport, IA, BA in Elementary Education, 1954; North East Missouri College, Kirksville, MO, Extension Courses, 1965; University of Northern IA, Cedar Falls IA, Extension Courses, 1966. Sister Frances entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on September 8, 1937 and made her final profession on January 15, 1943. She taught in Elementary Education for 48 years from 1941 to 1989.

This includes Catholic Grade Schools in Iowa in Bettendorf, Davenport, Des Moines, Dunlap, Neola, Ottumwa, Parnell and Stuart from 1989 to 2007. She volunteered in Des Moines as a visitor of the sick and elderly and tutored at St. Joseph School. She retired at the Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, IA in 2007. Survivors include her sister, Eleanor Funaro, Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sister Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Al, Joseph and Anthony Comito; and her sisters, Frances Comito and Ann Comito Barberi. Visitation will begin after 4 p.m., Wednesday, November 14, at Our Lady of Peace Chapel, Bishop Drumm, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will begin after 4 p.m. Thursday, November 15, at the Humility of Mary Center in Davenport with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary.

ILES Dunn's Chapel 2121 Grand Ave. ARDITH M. HAYDEN Dexter Ardith Marie (Hiner) Hayden, 72 passed away Sun. November 11, 2007 at her home at Diamond Head Lake. Funeral services will be held at Ruppert Funeral Home in Stuart this Thursday at 7 p.m.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, prior to services. Ardith was born on July 15, 1935 in Omaha, Neb. to Harry C. and Inus N.

(Krenzer) Hiner. The Hiners moved to Iowa in 1946 where Ardith spent the rest of her short but joyful life. On December 26, 1954 she married Paul M. Hayden and they made their home in Des Moines until 1975 when they built a new home together by hand at Diamond Head Lake. Ardith was baptized in the Christian faith on January 16, 1955 in the Central Christian Church in Jefferson Iowa.

She had many hobbies but her favorites were dancing, playing the organ and making ceramics. She also enjoyed volunteering for different committees at the lake and helping with social functions at the care center in Stuart. Ardith is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Paul M. Hayden, one son Paul M. (Beverly) Hayden one daughter, Deborah L.

(Gary) Johnston. She is also survived by six grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; one sister, Lois (Myron) Vanhorn, one brother Frank (Butch) Hiner, foster sister Karen Burns, one brother in law Wendall and wife Florence Hayden and a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter. Memorials may be directed to Stuart Community Care Center Foundation. Frances loved spending time with her children, granddaughters, great and her friends. Her interests included cooking for family and friends, needlepoint, reading, traveling, and bridge.

She was a member of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, P.E.O., LaSertoma, Church Circle, and Sons of Norway. DRAKE West Des Moines Zelpha Mae Drake, 66, passed away November 10, 2007. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

She is survived by her daughters, Claudia and Nichole; 16 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. MARTIN PALMER Polk City Martin W. Palmer, 91, died Friday, November 9, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines Ankeny, IA.

Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. a at Caldwell Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road, Urbandale. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. in the Riverview Cemetery, Rock Rapids, IA. Martin was born June 17, 1916 in Derby, KS to Raymond and Bessie Palmer.

He served his country honorably during WWII for seven years in the Army, and retired from the National Guard after 20 years of active duty. He then was chief xray technician at Broadlawns Hospital until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW Post the American Legion Post in Polk City, 40-8 Club, Independent Order of Foresters, and the National Timber Wolves Association. Mr. Palmer is survived by daughter, Donna Teel; and one grandchild, Keri Bennett; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Casey Bennett, all from his first wife, Betty Jean Palmer.

From his second wife, Lyla Schoen, he is survived by four step-sons, Richard Flannery, Roger Flannery, Larry Reid, and Jon A. Schoen; step-grandchildren, Patrick and Susan Flannery, Jon Jeffery, Darcy, and Vanessa Schoen; step-greatgrandchildren, Crystal Flannery, Carley Evans, Nathan Jacob, and Emilee Schoen. He also leaves one brother, John S. Palmer and sister, Lois J. Baker, both of CO.

Mary was born September 1, 1929 in Palestine, Ohio where she grew up with six brothers and five sisters. Mary is survived by a daughter, Willeta Weis; six sons: Gary, Ronald (Julie), Donald (Billie), Charles (Sandy), Robert (Cindy), David (Vickie); a special son, Ken Corbin; seventeen grandchildren; and thirty-four great-grandchildren. Debbie was born in Mesquite, Texas, moved to Des Moines in 1972 and graduated in 1977 from East High School. Debbie is survived by two sons, Randy of New Virginia and Kelly (Lori) of Des Moines; two grandchildren; her mother, Betty Sorter of Des Moines; four brothers, Raymond Sorter, Jr. (Carolyn) of Terrell, TX, Bob Sorter (Barbara) of Hondo, TX, Gene Sorter (Laine) of Winnfield, LA, and Rodney Sorter (Becky) of Des Moines; her sister Tammy (Casey) Bullington of Des Moines and numerous nieces and nephews.
