4B Sunday, March 16, 2008 OBITUARIES The Des Moines Register ST SHARON SNELSON Hartford Sharon Snelson, 68, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008 at Hospice of Central Iowa Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held 2:30 p.m., Tuesday: at Community United Presbyterian Church in Hartford with burial of the cremated remains at the Hartford Cemetery. Sharon was born to Robert J. and Ella Mae Moulton on July 1, 1939 in Norfolk, Nebraska. She moved to Hartford with her family at age ten where she continued to live for 58 years.

Sharon retired from Cargill as a grain merchant's assistant. She was active in Order of the Eastern Star, Women's Fire Auxiliary in Hartford, Girl Scout and Sunday school teacher. Sharon is survived by her children, Cyndi (Dave) Mortenson of Swan, Iowa, Sharry (Tim) Thompson of Des Moines and Jimmy (Steven Ramos) Snelson of Chicago; her siblings, Deanna (John) Thomas, Donna (Jim) Winget, Bob (Joyce) Moulton, Marie (Butch) Bender, Howard (Laura) Heemstra, Debbie (Mark) Headlee and Ron Virden; grandchildren, Brenna and Shane Griffin and Rachel Thompson; stepgrandchildren, Wendy (Justin) Hartz and Will Mortenson; and numerous nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends. HAROLD G. ERICKSON McCallsburg Mr. Harold G. Erickson, 81, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Colonial Manor in Zearing, IA. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m.

at the Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, IA. Burial will be at the Warren Township Cemetery in McCallsburg, IA. Harold was born January 15, 1927 in Huxley, IA to Severt and Mary (Olson) Erickson. He was a lifelong resident of McCallsburg, IA. He was an animal caretaker for 28 years at the National Animal Disease Lab in Ames, IA.

He retired in 1988. Harold also served in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, and the McCallsburg American Legion Post Harold married Marilyn Noules in 1957 in Marshalltown, IA. He is survived by three children; sons, Kevin and Rick Erickson, both of McCallsburg, IA; daughter, Cheryl (Erickson) Mille of Waverly, IA; five grandchildren, Briana and Mike Mille, Travis, Tyler and Brandi Erickson; two sisters, Helen Knoll of Des Moines, IA, Rosella Brooks of Kimberly City, MO. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Marilyn, on August 4, 1994; one daughter; nine brothers; and one sister.

Visitation will be held on March 16 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing, IA. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but rather memorials be directed to the Erickson family. ARTHUR GARFIELD SCHREIBER Prescott, AZ Arthur Schreiber, 83, died Friday, February 29 due to a fall at his home in Prescott, AZ. He graduated from Rochester, MN High School in 1942.

He served in the US Army during WWII Korea. He retired after 34 years as a claims executive at the former Farmland Insurance Company, Des Moines, Iowa. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Jo; daughter, Heidi of Minneapolis; grandson, Eric; two great-grandchildren of Michigan; and sister, Gretchen Westling of Houston. MELLOZEN "MELLIE" CORNELISON Carlisle, formerly of Osceola Mellozen Ann (Dockerty) Cornelison, 94, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at the Carlisle Care Center. Services will be at 2 p.m., March 17 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, IA with visitation from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the Murray Cemetery, Murray, IA. BORGERDING White Bear Lake, MN Dean G. Borgerding, 80, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2008. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Susan Marie (Sims, formerly of Des Moines, IA) who passed away September 20, 2007. Adored father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and dear friend to so many who simply thought the world of him, Dean is survived by daughters, Jeanette, Debbie (Jim), Mary Ann (Ron), Diane (Greg); grandchildren, Roger, Joe, Sam, Jake; sisters, Mary Ann Struntz, Jessie Glass; brother, Joseph (Uncle Mickey); many nieces and nephews and little Maggie. Sunset Funeral Chapel LARRY RICHARD CRON Waukee Larry R. Cron, 66, passed away March 12, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Larry was born to James and Zola Cron on February 21, 1942 in Moravia, IA. He worked for Bob Brown Chevrolet for many years. He enjoyed time in Savannah, GA and working for Harley Davidson. Larry enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his family. He adored his family, especially his children and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Waive (Nile) McKibben; brother, A.D. (Pauline) Cron; brother, O. Fletcher Cron; and sisterin-law, Judy Cron. Larry is survived by his wife, Donna; daughter, Kellie Myers; son, Rod (Patty) Cron; grandchildren, Rachel Cron, Abbie Myers, and Jaimie Myers; sisters, Helen (Jerry) Gordon and Juanita (Fred) Harrison; brothers, Jim Cron, Bart (Pat) Cron, Merle Cron, and Jerry (Linda) Cron. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Arthur was born October 15, 1919 to John and Margaret Ferguson in Des Moines. He was a member of the Des Moines Police Department, retiring as a Captain after 26 years of service.

Arthur was a member of the Iowa State Police Association, Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police, Disabled American Veterans, Home Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, Sheriffs and Deputies Association and a five-year veteran of the U.S. Army. Arthur is survived by his son, Robert C. (Cherelyn); three grandchildren, Angela (David), Scott (Shawna) and Kelly (Ty); great-grandchildren, Paul, Dean, Jake, Emily and Erika; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel and four brothers.

MARY "NONIE" RENDA Des Moines Mary Jane Renda, 87, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston surrounded by family and friends. Funeral Mass will be Monday, March 17 at 10 a.m. at St.

Anthony's Catholic Church with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday, March 16 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Mary will be remembered as a great mother and grandmother, as family and friends were her life. She enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, and going out to lunch.

She was also a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lebe Fatino; sister, Leona Fuller; son-in-law, George Paletta; and great-granddaughter, Jessica Dale. Mary is survived by her children: Jeannie Renda, Ralph (Pat) Renda, and Joyce Paletta; one sister, Theresa Clausi; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. John's By The Campus Episcopal Church in Ames. Interment will follow in the ISU cemetery. She had successful careers as both a professional tailor and ESL teacher. IRIS KONO Newton Iris Kono, 93, of Newton, died on Tuesday, March 11, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and again after the service with a lunch at the First Assembly of God Church in Newton. Iris was born on September 06, 1914 in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Canada to Theodore and Bessie (Decker) Sterling. On June 25, 1931 she was married to Lawrence Kono in Dolliver, Iowa.

They made their 1 home in Newton. Those left to honor Iris's memory are her two sons, Layne (Senna) Kono of Chariton and Wayne (Kay) Kono of Newton; four grandchildren; her 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Ivan (Lee) Tharp of Newton; sister, Hazel Dye of Adel; and many nieces and nephews. KORNHAUSER Des Moines Robert J. Kornhauser, 80, of 1453 Birch Drive, died Friday, March, 14, 2008 at the Good Shepherd Health Center. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church 120 1st Street NE with Rev. Wendy Abrahamson officiating.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Elinor in 2007. Timothy W. Schempp, age 42, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Caldwell-Raddatz Funeral Home, 8201 Hickman Road in Urbandale.

A memorial celebration of life will be held at the same location at 10 a.m., Tuesday. Tim was born in Des Moines, IA on July 17, 1965. He was employed at Goodrich Turbine Fuel Technologies and was working toward a Bachelors' Degree in business from Des Moines Area Community College. He loved people and outdoor activities of camping, fishing and being part of nature. He enjoyed hunting but could never kill an animal.

Tim found great pleasure in NASCAR, the Minnesota Vikings, his garden, beloved cat, Baxter and his many friends. Tim is survived by his mother Juanita McBeth of Urbandale, his father Don Schempp of Kansas City, his bother, Benjamin of Urbandale, grandmother Mary Schempp of Cedar Falls and many very special aunts, uncles and cousins. He will be remembered for his gentleness with people and animals and his friendliness to all. He was a wonderful son and a great friend to many. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.

GYLA FLORIEN HEDGPETH Des Moines Gyla Florien Hedgpeth, 91, passed away, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Trinity Center in Des Moines. Gyla was the daughter of Grover and Hannah Shriner, and was born in Rolfe, Iowa on July 21, 1916. Gyla is survived by three sons, David Slaybaugh, Larry Hedgpeth, and Alan Hedgpeth; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; daughter, Gyla Deann; and son, Michael. Funeral services will be 12 p.m.
