Dave Kissinger, an Ankeny guidance counselor and Streyffeler's coworker, said Streyffeler was the "ultimate counselor" and her rapport with young people didn't stop when students graduated. Added Joyce Knock, a teacher at Lincoln: "She had a way with people you had to see to believe. When you were talking with Lorrie Streyffeler, you were the most important person In the world. And it was all sincere." Jan Johnson, vice principal at Lincoln, said, "Lorrie had a way of doing all the work and giving everyone else all the credit." "There are some people who just cannot be characterized with words and she was one of them," said Matt Law of his former guidance counselor. "She was genuine in everything she did, but there was something extra with her," said Law, a freshman at Simpson College.

"It was an aura of warmth. She was like sunshine." "All the Time You Needed" Streyffeler was never in a hurry, said Knock. "She could be going to the most important event, but if you stopped her in the hall, she would give you all the time you needed and you would never know that she needed to be somewhere. In fact, she spent so much time talking to students and other people, she often came in on Saturdays to do her paper work." Streyffeler, 45, started a number of programs at Lincoln and she volunteered time to other high schools, said Lincoln Principal Thomas Drake. "It's unbelievable the impact she had," said Drake.

"If you felt down about something, Lorrie was the person you tried to find. No trouble was too great. She could handle everything and she radiated energy." Streyffeler, of 1201 S.E. Cortina Drive in Ankeny, was a member of the National Education Association, the Iowa State Education Association, the American Association of Counseling and Development, the Iowa Association of Counseling and Development and First United Methodist Church in Ankeny. In addition to her husband and daughter, she is survived by her parents, Chesley and Lorraine Waterman of Pleasant Hill, and three sisters, Veronica G.

today at Hamilton's Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ankeny Substance Abuse Program. Driver of pickup held on $13,000 bond Kenneth Johnson, 34, of Ankeny was being held on 13,000 bond Sunday on a charge of vehicular homicide in the death of Lorrie Streyffeler, Polk County sheriff's deputies said. Sgt Brian Holtz said officials suspect Johnson, who they say was driving the pickup truck that hit Streyffeler, had been drinking. They are awaiting blood-test results.

Deputies said a pickup truck struck Streyffeler shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday and failed to stop. Sheriff's officials said they learned Johnson's identity because a witness followed him home after he allegedly left the accident scene. Polk County Medical Examiner R.C. Wooters said Streyffeler died of head and neck injuries.
