James Heikes, Appanoose County medical examiner, said the body of the victim of the 1 p.m. accident was burned beyond recognition and had not been identified Saturday night. Elsewhere: Ronald Jennings, 39, of Carlisle died when he was struck by a North Western Railway freight train at a downtown crossing Friday night. Jennings apparently was standing inside the crossing gate while a train went by and was hit by a second train coming from the other direction, police said. He died after being flown by helicopter to Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Lee Sterling LaMar, 44, of 40i2 79th St. in Urbandale was declared dead Thursday after his car went out of control and rolled several times near Ida Grove late Wednesday, the Ida County Sheriff's Department reported. LaMar was taken to Marian Health Center and was declared dead by Dr. John Scott, Woodbury County Medical examiner, but was kept on a respirator until Friday. Robert McNeese, 23, of Cedar Rapids, who is awaiting sentence on his guilty plea to a federal bank robbery charge, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison on state forgery and theft charges. McNeese, who admitted robbing a branch of the United State Bank on Feb. 9, was one of 35 persons arrested by Cedar Rapids police during an undercover operation in January. of Ankeny. S.N.

TOMMY TOMPKINS The Register's Iowa News Service BOONE, IA. S.N. Tommy Tompkins, 77, of Boone died of cancer Friday at home. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church.

The body was donated to the medical school at the University of Iowa. Mr. Tompkins was born in Marengo. He retired in 1960 after 45 years with Standard Oil Co. as a salesman and agent.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Lions Club. He was a former Scout leader' and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Velma; two sons, Morgan of Evergreen, and Mark of Elkhorn, three sisters, Laura Hatfield of Wichita, Evelyn Slaymaker of Cedar Rapids and Ethel Hall of Huxley; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Nazarene Church in Pella, with burial to be in Graceland Cemetery. Mr. Witzenburg was born in Pella. Before retiring, he had been a trucker for Otley Livestock and had worked for Vermeer Manufacturing.

He was a member of Pella Nazarene Church. today and from 6 to 9 p.m. Bicyclist hit by car, in critical condition A Des Moines bicyclist was critically injured Saturday night in a collision with a car on the city's north side. Joseph David Oxenreider, 21, was listed in critical condition at Mercy Hospital Medical Center with head injuries after the accident near the intersection of Sixth and Holcomb avenues at 7:45 p.m. Oxenreider was riding north when a southbound car, driven by Sophie Jean Marchant, 68, of 3012 Bowdoin turned left to enter the driveway of North High School, police said. The collision threw Oxenreider from the bike into the car's windshield.

(AP) Fire broke out in a motel laundry room early Saturday, forcing 125 people to evacuate but causing no major damage.

The fire, reported at 12:30 a.m., destroyed the laundry room at the Holiday Inn, and the rest of the building sustained some smoke damage, fire officials said. The blaze was under control within 20 minutes. Motel guests, employees and customers of the motel bar went to a nearby shopping mall. Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, but there were no other injuries. The cause of the fire is under Church and Ladies Circle.

Survivors include her husband, Os car three daughters, Donna Hawk of Tulsa, Sharon Montray and Karen Carpenter, both of Minneapo lis, a sister, Katherine Miers of Perry; 10 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.
