The diplomats were dressed prettier (most of them wore pounds of gold braid, red ribbons and decorations), but the retiring secretary of state, James F. and his attractive white-haired wife monopolized most of the attention at the White House diplomatic reception Tuesday night. Mr. Byrnes' resignation had been announced shortly before the party began, and he was 20 minutes late in arriving at the White House. However, the Trumans forgave him, and Senators Connally and Vanden-berg were so eager to talk to him that they held up the line for a matter of minutes; It was a love feast crossing political lines.

They spent some time in New Orleans, Chattanooga, Tenn, and Kentucky. Mr. William I'enn of Fvansville, Ind, will arrive this morning to visit a wek with her parents. Mr. and Mrs.

While a great number of lo-calites already are basking in the Florida and California sunshine or vacationing in the Texas and Arizona regions, many more will be leaving within the next fortnight for vacation Jaunts.

Mr. and Mrs. B. J. rowers, 1125 Douglas will leave Wednesday by motor for Florida.

They will be gone a month and while away are planning either a boat or plane trip to Central America. MIhh Carrie Christopherson, 1301 Locust will leave by plane Thursday for New Orleans, where she will spend a short time while en route to Balboa, Panama. While in Panama she will visit three weeks with a former Des Moines girl. Miss Marguerite Oswald. Mrs.

May field Marshall. 2714 Park place, will leave by plane Monday for southern California, where she will remain until spring. Mrs. KaMon Ilippee. 3225 John Lynde road, will leave the first of the week by motor, for California.

She will spend two months in Los Angeles with her daughter. Miss i Mr. and Mrs. Sarnoff To Be Honored Today Mr. and Mrs.

Robert Sarnoff, who are leaving soon to make their home in New York City will be honored at a buffet supper to be given this evening by Mrs. Thornburg Cowles, 50 Thirty-seventh sL Mr. Sarnoff will leave the middle of the week for the east, where his family later will join him.
