Several thousand Bamangwato tribesmen gathered at Serowe, Bechuanaland, defied their SERETSE. RUTH WILLIAMS. regent's orders and voted to accept the white girl as their queen. She is the wife of chief-designate Seretse Khama, who married her in London.

"Do You Want Me "If I don't give up my wife do you want me for chief?" Seretse tribesmen, asked the assembled Forty minor chiefs turned thumbs down. They wouldn't accept a white queen. Only 20 per cent of the tribesmen agreed. Then 6,000 tribesmen acclaimed Seretse, shouting their approval of Ruth until the hills surrounding the meeting echoed with tribal yells. For 1 10 minutes Seretse WAS applauded, but decision was withheld until the tribesmen gather again today, Seretse is 27.

The bride is 24. They were married last October in London when he was studying law at Oxford. She still is in London. The vote came after three days of ritualistic doings and speechmaking.
