Moines Sunday Register GC OBITUARIES ALMANAC Sunday, January 23, 2005 Page 5B AGNES F. BOSWORTH Des Moines Agnes was born in Rockham, South Dakota in 1909 to Ben and Emma (Schmeling) Nittler. She was retired from the Treasurer's Department for the City of Des Moines where she worked as bookkeeper. She was an active member of Beta Nu Soriety, Good Neighborhood Club, En-Theos Chapter of American Business Women and a board member of Lincoln High Alumni Association. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, LW.M.L.

and served a Parish Fellowship Chair as well as on the Board of Directors for Peace. Agnes also worked for the Polk County Board of Elections. She also was the for IPERS Improvement Association. Agnes enjoyed her affiliation with Lincoln Alumni Association and was both Grand Marshall at Lincoln parades and most recently inducted into the Lincoln High School Hall of Fame. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L.

Bosworth, her parents, nine siblings and her grandson Randy DeBolt. She is survived by her two daughters; Karen Knight of Pensacola, Florida and husband Jay, Karol Robbins of Des Moines and husband Tom; grandchildren, Lisa Hockenberry and husband Joe; Cindy Degarmo and husband Jack; Kim DeBolt. Agnes had 10 great-grandchildren, Tommy, Rusti, Justin, Kris, Nikki, Kassi, Heather, Kelsie, Brandon, Tanner and Ryan; two great great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Hamilton's Funeral Home on Lyon Street at 11 a.m., Tuesday, January 25th. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

on Monday at the funeral home. Internment will be at Highland Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be given to InTrust Hospice Taylor House. JOYCE S. GRUSH Ankeny Joyce S.

Grush, 84, passed away January 21, 2005, at the Israel Family Hospice of Ames of cancer. A mass and memorial service will be held at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church 510 1 Street in Ankeny 2 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2005. Interment will be at the St. Andrews Catholic Cemetery in Sibley, lowa.

Joyce was born August 23, 1920, in Ashton, lowa. She served as the Osceola County Recorder for twenty years in Sibley, Iowa including serving as President of the lowa State County Recorder's Association. She was a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul, read for the IRIS Group and volunteered in the East and Southeast Elementary School libraries in Ankeny. She was a member of Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church of Ankeny.

Joyce is survived by daughter Anne (Lee) Duin of Ankeny, Iowa; son John (Jerri) Grush of Boone, lowa; son Mark (Laura) of Littleton, Colorado; seven grandchildren Amy (Brian) Duin Ratcliff and Andy (Eileen) Duin; Sarah, Lindsey and Jill Grush; Ali and Nate Grush; sisters Virginia Degen of Holstein, Iowa and Sally Walton of Montrose, CO; and, brother Ronald Roben of Palisade, Colorado. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents Warren Lavina Roben and granddaughter Molly Ann Duin. Family will greet friends one hour before the service 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church of Ankeny or the East or Southeast Elementary Library Fund in Ankeny.

The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western lowa is in charge of the arrangements. MARIAN L. EDWARDS Johnston Marian L. Edwards, 83, passed away on January 22, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m.

on Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Ankeny with Interment at West Bend Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Marian graduated from Mallard High School in 1940. She attended AIB in Des Moines on a scholarship. Marian was married in 1942 to Leslie Edwards, after they were married they lived in Emmetsberg and Forest City lowa. She worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for 25 years and was the first woman foreman.

Marian loved life and was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening, her grandchildren, and spending time with her family. Marian had a great sense of humor and will always be remembered for her quick wit. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria (Tom) Craft of Phoenix, AZ; her sons, David (Carol) Edwards Denver, CO, Robert (Kris) Edwards of Ankeny, IA; daughters, Rebecca (Tim) Heidenwirth of Greene, IA, Tammy (Jerry) Den Hartog of Clear Lake, IA; twelve grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Frohling, Jack Frohling, Merlyn Frohling, and Lon Frohling; two sisters, Florence Warnke, and Jeanie Jorgensen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Edwards in 1999, and her parents, Henry and Gladys Frohling, and two brothers, Robert Frohling and Mike Frohling.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Resurrection Lutheran Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. AGNES L. OLSON Adel Agnes L.

Olson, 94, died Friday, January 21, 2005, at Adel Acres. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 25 at the Westchester Evangelical Free Church, 4919 Aurora Ave, Des Moines with burial in Union Cemetery, Polk City, was born October 11, 1910 in Black Hawk, South Dakota to Theodore and Carolina Johanson. Upon graduation from Rapid City High School, Agnes worked as a telephone operator and supervisor. She married Arthur N.

Olson in 1939, then attended Trinity Bible College while Arthur was in seminary. Upon his completing seminary, they served Evangelical Free Churches in Webster, South Dakota; North Branch and Milaca, Minnesota; Gothenburg, Nebraska; Battle Creek, Polk City and Albert City, lowa. During these years of ministry, Agnes was actively involved with her leadership in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. As a gifted musician, she directed choir and often performed playing the piano and singing. She was a member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church in Des Moines and served several years as a deaconess and was active in women's ministries.

Agnes is survived by her daughter, Carolyn (Marlin) Weieneth of Adel; son, Robert Olson of Orono, Minnesota; son, Richard (Carol Lynn Courtney) Olson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and seven sisters. Agnes will be remembered for her strong faith, her sensitivity toward others, her wonderful sense of humor and enthusiasm for life. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Westover Funeral Home.

Des Moines Paul E. Tuttle, Sr. passed away Wednesday, January 19 at Mercy Medical Center of Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.

Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery in Peru. Paul was born on the family farm in Madison County and attended the Lorimor school system. Paul then spent most of his life in Des Moines. He was a member of the Isaac Walton League in Des Moines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and horses.

He was a huge Miami Dolphins and lowa Hawkeyes fan. Paul is survived by his friend and former wife, Donna Tuttle of Des Moines; sons, Chuck (Dani) Tuttle of Mankato, MN, and Paul (special friend Cindy) Tuttle, Jr. of Des Moines; daughters, Kimberly (David) Jones of Littleton, CO, and Shelley Tindle of Des Moines; brothers, Thomas (Donna) Tuttle of Peru, Robert (Glenda) Tuttle of Winterset and John (Irene) Tuttle of Norwalk; sisters, Blanche Dykes of Des Moines and Betty (Elmer) Bone of Roseburg, OR; half brothers, Kelvin (Carol) Tuttle and Alvin (Lynda) Tuttle, both of Minneapolis, MN; half sisters, Janet (Don) Moore, Joan Odel, Dottie (Dan) Scharber, all of Minneapolis, MN, and Judy (John) Leedy Des Moines; stepmother, Doris Tuttle of Minneapolis, MN; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Visitation will be held on Sunday from noon until 8 p.m. at Collins Oak Park Chapel.

Family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to his family. ROSEMARY J. WEAVER Fairfield Bay, AK Rosemary J. Weaver, 84, died Thursday, January 13, 2005, succumbing to cancer and congestive heart failure.

She was born and lived in Des Moines for 55 years, and nurtured her family and friends with uncommon grace. Rosemary's daughter, Madonna Noble; son, Tom and wife Elaine; granddaughter, Laurie Humiston and husband Dan; and great granddaughter, Aerin Humiston miss her love and elegant nature. Rosemary retired to Fairfield Bay, Arkansas in 1975 with her husband Abram C. Weaver, who preceded her in death. She spent her remaining years enjoying her friends, and her "wonderful home in the woods by the An active member of PEO, past president of Toastmistresses, Rosemary was also a founding member of the "Wild Women of Wilshire" neighborhood group in Fairfield Bay.

Rosemary often volunteered for hospice care, and was a proud supporter of her community. Rosemary loved literature and had a quirky sense of humor; a passage from Don Marquis' "archy and mehitabel" is fitting: "girls we was all of us ladies we was what the hell and once a lady always game by crikey blood will tell" A celebration of her life will be held this spring in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas on a date to be announced by the family. Connie Kamp, 91, of Renwick, passed away January 16, 2005 at the Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Renwick.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Renwick. The Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt was in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. Kamp is survived by her daughter, Joan Baldwin of Des Moines; sons and daughter-in-laws. Marvin and Merrillyn Kamp of Humboldt, and Vernon and Kathy Kamp of Renwick; 17 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sister, Mabel Odland; half-brother, Paul Jacobson; step-sister Viola Armstrong, and sister-in-laws, Betty Jacobson and Eleanor Jacobson, all of Eagle Grove; and step-brother, Amos Munson of Ft.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Henry: daughters, Henrietta Ayres, and Barbara Faltinson; infant half-brother, Elmer; infant half-sister, Caroline; sisters Burnette, Alma, and Genevieve; brothers, Bennie, Theodore, and Alfred; half-brother, Clarence; step brother, Marion; and step grandson, Mike Baldwin. Connie Jacobson, the daughter of Carl and Carrie (Knudson) Jacobson, was born December 20, 1913 at Humboldt, Iowa. She was raised and educated in Beaver township until moving with her parents to the Kanawaha area. she was united in marriage to Henry Kamp on January 22, 1934 at Klemme and the Couple farmed in the Eagle grove and Renwick areas.

They made their home near Kanawaha in 1952. Henry passed away in June of 1976. Connie made her home at Renwick until becoming a resident of the Humboldt Care Center North in January of 1996. Connie was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid VICTOR (VIC) O.

BLACKETER Des Moines CONNIE KAMP Renwick Victor (Vic) 0. Blacketer passed away at Millpond care center on January 21, 2005. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday January 25, 2005 at Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Vic was born in Estherville, lowa on April 1, 1922.

He was the son of Samuel and Engelina Blacketer. Vic moved to Des Moines in 1940 and attended Drake University to study music (PMA fraternity). He was a Lt. in the United States Air Force during WWII and served as a hump pilot in He received four distinguished flying crosses and five air medals. Vic was a studio engineer at WHO Radio and WHO TV when it went on the air.

He was owner of Mastertone Recording Company, and distributed radio broadcast equipment for Ampex Corporation. He designed custom audio installations at regional radio stations including SAC Air Force base in Omaha, Nebraska. Vic was a fan of big band music. He was involved as a recording engineer and attended a Fred Waring choral workshop. His hobbies included tennis and his horse, Diamond.

Victor is survived by his wife Rosalie Ellen Wisdom Blacketer of 59 years. They lived in the Beaverdale neighborhood for 48 years. He is also survived by five children, Steve Blacketer (Sandy) of Denver, Colorado; Becky Milligan of Des Moines; Vicki Ward (Lou) of Boise, Idaho; Scott Blacketer of Des Moines; and Melissa Blacketer (Larry) of Ames; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Westover Funeral Home on Monday, January 24, 2005 from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of lowa or Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Westover Iles Funeral Homes VELMA J. SAUER Grimes Velma Sauer, 80, died Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston from pancreatic cancer. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 24 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Urbandale.

Per her wishes her body has been donated to Des Moines University Donor Program. Velma was born in Black Hawk County and was raised and lived in Waterloo prior to moving to the Des Moines area in 1953. Velma operated a day care out of her home for more than 20 years and had worked at Koalaty Time Day Care for the last eight years with Friday, January 14 being her last day of work. Velma enjoyed quilting and her grandchildren. Velma is survived by her children, Ronald Sauer of Grimes, John (Mamie) Sauer of Urbandale, Terry (Marsha) Sauer of Guam and Kathy (Tony), Cirks of Des Moines; her brother, Max Wildes and sister Ardith Johnson both Waterloo; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" Sauer. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until service time at the church on Monday morning. Des Moines Gerald "GW" Graff, Jr. 33, died January 5, 2005 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center. GW was born in Chicago and was a graduate of Dowling Catholic in West Des Moines and Clarke College in Dubuque, where he received a BA degree in History. He was employed at the Valley West Younkers for eleven years. He played youth soccer in Johnston, and Junior Varsity soccer at Dowling Catholic, as well as intramural volleyball at Clarke College. He participated in the Pan Am Youth Games in Tampa, Florida, as well as the First World Dwarf Games in Chicago. In the Second World Dwarf Games in Peterborough, England he received gold medal in Basketball and a Bronze in Bacchi Ball.

a. His hobbies were reading, music, movies and collecting Coca Cola memorabilia. He was an avid Bears, Cubs, and Notre Dame fan. He loved his Shar Pei dog Harpo who he missed greatly. GW is survived by his parents, Gerald, Sr.

Monday, January 24 at McLaren's Funeral Chapel, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Beverly was born May 19, 1954 in Marshalltown, lowa. She grew up in West Des Moines and had also lived in Texas and Cedar Rapids. She had lived in the Des Moines area for the past twelve years. She was the operations manager at the Old Navy store in Merle Hay Mall.

During her Christian life, Beverly loved her family, including spoiling her nieces and nephews. She loved shopping, her work and Broadway plays. She is survived by her husband, Tony; her father, Jerry (Phyllis) Ernst of Kingman, AZ; mother, Mary Ernst of West Des Moines; sisters, Jerri (Jon) Warren of Richmond, TX, and Cindy Ernst of West Des Moines; brothers, Brad Ernst of West Des Moines and Brian (Kristy) Ernst of Blue Springs, MO; mother-in-law, Doris Young; brother and sisters-in-law, Larry Young, Linda (Jean) Benoit, Carolyn (Denny) Abel, Sharon (Dean) Nickles, Rick (Karla) Young, Jim Young, Tina (Brett) Chapman and Bene (John) Zehr; 18 nieces and nephews; and nine great-nieces and nephews. ROBINSON Des Moines Eleanor W. Robinson, 93, passed from this life on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Kavanagh House on 56th Street in Des Moines.

Services will be held at 10:30 am, Monday January 24, 2005 at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with burial at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, lowa. Eleanor was born the daughter of Roy and Sarah Ellen Duncan Robinson on November 27, 1911 in Oskaloosa, lowa. She attended business school in Oskaloosa and then worked in the Circulation Dept. at the Oskaloosa Daily Herald as Circulation manager for 49 years until 1978.

In 1979 she moved to Des Moines where she was a member of the St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She is survived by her sister, Mary Leigh Shaffer of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brother. Memorial Contributions may be made to her church, Scottish Rite Park Good Brother Hood Fund.

Westover Iles Funeral Homes LENORE (REED) LAFFERTY West Des Moines Lenore (Reed) Lafferty, 88. died January 20, 2005 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, IA. Sunday and one hour prior to the service on Monday. DR. SANTIAGO GARCIA Johnston Dr. Santiago Garcia (Fernandez), 72, passed away Friday, January 21, 2005 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines after a battle with Leukemia. memorial mass will be held 11 a.m.

Monday January 24, 2005 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Dr. Garcia was born July 22, 1932 in Tricio, Logrono, Spain to Dr. Eutimio Garcia Rojo and Sara Garcia Fernandez. He graduated from the University of Madrid School of Medicine and came to the United States in 1962.

Dr. Garcia married Phyllis Brenny May 4, 1963 and this union was blessed with John (Mary) of St. Paul, MN; Mike (Deb) of Bartlett, IL; and Joe of Charlotte, NC; as well as four grandchildren, Ben, Sara, Olivia and Jack. Also surviving are his family in Spain; brother, Dr. D.

Jose Ignacio; sister, Sara; sister in law, Maria Victoria; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ramon and sisters Rosario and Mary Biby. His American family also mourn his passing: Jerry (Delores) Brenny, San Jose, CA; Carol (Owen) Schrader, Bellevue, WA, Mike (Jan) Brenny, Tucson, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Dr. Garcia established his own medical practice in Urbandale in 1972.

He particularly liked to help the Spanish speaking community. He worked with La Clinica and the Woodward State Hospital School. He was one of the pioneers of soccer in lowa and enjoyed coaching and sharing his enthusiasm and knowledge of the sport. Monday, January 24 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 814 School St, Des Moines. She is being prepared by Nichols Funeral Home and burial will be at Sunset Cemetery. Leona was born January 6, 1908 in Clarinda, Iowa. She was a life-long resident of lowa. Her father, Rev.

R.P. Palmer pastored several churches in southern and eastern lowa. As a result Leona lived in several small towns during her early childhood. Her family moved to and settled in Des Moines in 1932 where her father pastored Union Baptist Church. Leona's last employment was a secretary at Corinthian Baptist Church where she served Rev.

Strickland for 20 years, retiring at the age of 85. She was involved in community service through her active membership in the Parliamentary Law and Culture Club and the Patroness Club. Leona loved life, loved to laugh and loved the Lord. She was dedicated and loyal to her loved ones; always there to help and guide; always with a sense of humor. She was preceded in death by her husband, John R.

W. Webb; and two brothers, Kenneth and Ed Palmer. She is survived by her daughter, Luella M. Spaine of Des Moines; stepdaughter, Helen Pruitt of Chicago, IL; nieces, Vicki Whiteside and Valerie Weaver; and nephews, Robert Webb and Gordon Brown, all of Des Moines. Nichols Funeral Home JANE BIRKHEAD Syracuse, NY Jane Birkhead died January 20, 2005 at her home in Syracuse, NY.

She was a music educator and a singer who pursued a career of six decades in lowa, Oklahoma and New York City. Ms. Birkhead studied singing with several American teachers and with the great soprano, Lotte Lehmann, and she was also coached by Fritz Lehmann. She sang in concert and musical theater throughout the Midwest. She was a professor of music and musical theater at the University of lowa (Cedar Falls) and Oklahoma (Norman).

She sent her graduating students to teach at other universities in states including Iowa, Oklahoma, Florida, California, Colorado and Missouri. Other students sang at theaters in New York City and other cities. Her greatest love was for the Lieder of Bach, Wolf and Schubert. She developed that love under Lehmann and passed it on to her students. She was especially proud of them and their many accomplishments.

Ms. Birkhead was born in Holden, Missouri, and was educated in the public schools in Jefferson City, Missouri. She graduated from Christian College and the University of Missouri with Bachelors and Masters Degrees. She is survived by her brother, Guthrie S. Birkhead, Maxwell School, and three nephews, Guthrie, Richard and Evan and their children.

MARY (WHITEHURST) EAKIN Covina, CA Mary (Whitehurst) Eakin, 85, passed away on January 12, 2005 in Covina. A gathering of family and friends was held at the family home with inurnment following. Mary was born in Des Moines and graduated from East High School.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Eakin of Covina, CA, and Robert Eakin of Koloa, HI; sisters, Mildred Wikner of Denver, CO, and Helen Whitehurst of Scottsdale, AZ; and brothers, Robert Whitehurst of Chandler AZ, and Lee Whitehurst of Graeagle, CA.
