1 1. 1 A A A 1 1 rent a a a a a the a a a THE DES MOINES REGISTER: SUNDAY The Des Moines Realtors Exchange is a plan whereby owner may list his every property with any one REALTOR. It will then be relisted through the Exchange with every other Realtor, thereby giving the owner the advantage of getting his property listed with complete information with every active member of the Board. The word REALTOR applies only to that individual, firm or corporation who is a member of the Des Moines Real Estate Board in good standing. The Realtor selling the property gets two-thirds of the commission and the Realtor who had the property listed gets one-third of the regular commission when the deal is closed.

S. FONTAINE. (By Leased Wire to The Register.) NEW YORK, Sept. week just closed was one of the most important in months from a stock market viewpoint. Sentiment was favorably influenced by the rapidity with which the French loan was taken.

The issue of $100,000,000, which matures in twenty-five years, 8 per cent, was eagerly taken." The subscriptions amounted approximately $160,000,000 and was remarkably successful. The overshadowing feature of the loan was the many small subscribers to it. So numerous were they that it will probably be several days before of their subseriptions will be listed and allotments made. The demand for the issue was from investors all over the country and the entire loan was oversubscribed within one hour from the time of its offering on Thursday last. The bonds have already sold at a premium, with the initial quotations on the curb market at from 100 to with a reaction of but A at the close of first day's trading.

On the following day on very heavy tradthe price rose to 101 and closed almost at the top. Bankers Enthused. There has been nothing in months that has so enthused the bankers as has the reception of the loan. It shows, as nothing else. that the investing public again in the market and can be depended ities show a good yield on the upon from, now on to buy securinvestment.

Some of our other allies are likely soon to be in the market for funds, and the avidity with which this first offering has been taken augurs well for a successful flotation of future foreign loans. People with money for a long time past have been more or less nervous about putting out their funds, especially in long time obligations. They seem to have gotten over their fright and the success of this foreign flotation is an indication that they can be depended upon to furnish the money necessary help these countries speedily rehabilitate themselves. Money Getting Normal. Money conditions in the local markets are rapidly getting back to normal.

Several times during the week call money rates stood at 6 per cent and there was a slightly easier tendency shown in extending accommodations on commercial paper. Some of the leading bank officials have stated in confidence that they look for a lower rate soon to prevail for parunning from four to six per months once the demands of these institutions for the moving of the big crops and the payments which the government will call for next Wednesday have been met. On this date payments for the third quarter fare due. Immediately afterward this money will be redeposited in the banks throughout the country and thus help relieve the credit situation. For two consecutive weeks the New York clearing house banks have shown a gain in their reserve account and while there has been but little change for the better in the federal reserve bank statements, yet the officials of the institution look for a turn for the better very shortly.

The bringing in of gold both from France and England in payment for the AngloFrench loan due next month, certainly should help relieve that situation. From these countries there is now a steady inflow of the precious, until metal, the which maturity will of con- the loan. The effect of all of this on investors is already apparent in an improved stock market and in gen- able manifestations of strength in the stock market has been the sharp rise in the oil stocks. In London there is also said to be a small sized boom developing in these issues. Here the demand for petroleum products keeps growing and all of the producing properties are showing steadily expanding earnings.

As an indication of their prosperity, it is only necessary to cite the fact that the Standard Oil companies paid out $29.504,575 11 cash dividends in the third quarter of present year which compares with $27.273,000 in the second quarter and contrast with $23,354,000 in the corresponding quarter of a year ago. This disbursement is the largest ever made by Standard Oil corporations in third quarter and with the exception of the $30.406.000 paid out second quarter of 1916 is the largest made at any time since the dissolution of the parent company. Big returns are also being made by the companies operating in Republic of Mexico following the election of General Obregon to the presidency and a probable early culmination of the controversy which has existed for so long over questions of taxes on oil lands. Greatest Corn Crop Ever. Evidence of the nation's prosperity has been furnished by the announcement from Washington that the greatest corn crop TO in the country's history is in prospect from this year's harvest.

Production based on Sept. 1 conditions, according to the department of agriculture, will approximate 000.000 bushels. This tremendous yield will exceed by 6,000,000 bushels the previous largest crop on record that of 1912. The government also advises that there is likely to be a record of tobacco this year. Forecasts of this crop are placed at crop 1.553.000,000 pounds, exceeding the best previous production by 114,000,000 pounds.

Predictions regarding the other crops such 89 corn, oats, potatoes and so forth are all very promising. Nothing is so important to the country's growth as good crops. With these assured the country must of necessity forge ahead. They mean vast returns to all of the railroads of the country and a cheapened cost of commodities to the wage earners as well as fornishing substantial underpinnings for the peace and tranquility of the country at large. There is no doubt that all the above will be reflected in a steadily advancing market in which the rails and industrials will play the most important parts.
