He also drew pictures of a revolting character with pen and ink. The first of these letters were mailed from; Des Moines, but there seemed to be no disposition on the part of the recipients to prosecute until he became persistent.

He left Des Moines about this time, and continued to mall letters from post- weak, tired, nervous women, and crowded, overworked, struggling men.
