12 22,2015 The Pioneer-Republican OBITUARIES Funeral service for Kenneth C. Smith, 84, Marengo, as held a 10:30 a Saturday, April 18, a the Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. He died Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehab Center. The Rev. Matt German officiated at the service.

Burial was in the Mar engo Cemetery. A memorial fund has een established. Online condolences ay be left at www.klos- ter funeralhome.com. Kenneth Cody Smith was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Iowa City, the son of David and Alice Parvin mith.

He received his ducation in the country chool near High Aman a. In his earlier years, he counted cattle and fixed fences on horseback for the Amana Society. He was employed over the years as an iron worker with Iowa Steel, making car accessories at Sheller Globe and as a reeter at Walmart in edar Rapids. married Nevada Pearl Smith and the cou- le had a daughter and four sons. They later divorced.

He married Carol Miller and the couple had one son. He enjoyed playing heckers, yodeling, ishing, hunting and ever missed a local gar age sale. He had a sweet tooth and liked Pepsi, Hershey bars and vanilla ice cream. He also enjoyed going for rides with his family and friends. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great- grandfather.

Capper, 98, Williams- urg, was eld at 1:30 Sunday, April 19, at A sbury United Methodist Church, Wellman. She died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Highland Ridge Care Center, Williamsburg. The Rev. Moody Colorado officiated at the service. Burial was in Pleasant ill Cemetery, Joetown.

Bessie Minnie (Kleinschmidt) Capper waas born April 27, 1916, in Johnson County, the daughter of John and Addie (Reynolds) Kleinschmidt. She attended Hartsock Number Three rural school in Sharon Township. She married Charles C.

Capper July 2, 1938, in Kirksville, The couple owned and operated Cafe and later, Chuck Wagon for 37 years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Wellman; the Rebekah Lodge, lub, American Legion A uxiliary, Country uilters Quilt Club and he Wellman Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, camping, sewing, quilting and her grandchildren. Capper is survived by four children, John Thomas (Vicki) Capper, Parnell; Charles (Joanne) Capper, Marengo; ecil Capper, Cedar apids, and Ron (Jenny) apper, Williamsburg; 13 grandchildren; 29 reat-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Vivian) Kleinschmidt, Iowa City, and one sister, Leona Buchmayer, Solon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, in 2004; her parents; a great-granddaughter, Kynlea Heitman; three brothers, Joe, Roy and Emery Kleinschmidt, and one sister, Marguerite Plecker.

The couple later divorced. was employed at the Me Too store in Mar engo before it closed and also worked at sev- ral other businesses in the area. He was on the Marengo city council for several years and as a member of the Rod Hawks and the Jay- ees. He later moved and married Belle Wood in 1987. She died in 2009.

Larry Jacobs, 70 Funeral service for Joseph W. Matthess, 66, Marengo, was held at 10 a.m.

Thursday, April 16, at the Marengo American Legion Hall. He died Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center. The Rev. Bob Striegel officiated at the service. Burial was in the Marengo Cemetery with military honors.

Joseph William Matthess was born Aug. 28, 1 948, in Iowa City, the son of Maynard Orville and Dorothy Cecilia Cox Matthess.

He received his education in the Oxford and Iowa City schools. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1 965 to 1970, with three tours of duty in Vietnam. He married Irene Christine Rider June 4, 1983, in Marengo. He was an over -the- road truck driver for 35 years until his health pre- vented him from continuing.

He then owned and operated JCI Car Care in Ladora and for a time, owned Cafe in Stanwood. He enjoyed going dancing, stock car racing and old cars. Smuggy was happiest when he was doing for others. He liked to organize and run benefit auctions for many worthy causes and was great at playing Santa Claus. He was a 52-year member of the American Legion, currently a member of the Oxford Post and held the position of mayor of Ladora for 4 years.

Matthess is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Becky, Shelly Jenny Theresa, Chris, J.R. and Jaime; 22 grandchildren, Matthew, Alysha, Logan, Lizzy, Tony, Nicole, Joseph III, Jordan, J.D., Levi, Lea, Jazzy Chandler, Rayce, Owen, Blayze, Brynnlee, Jakob, Davon, Zander, Darion and King; eight great-grandchildren and his siblings, Betty, Mary, Barry, Lonnie, Paul (Linda), Don (Mary) and Ron Tara). He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Joe his sisters, Pat Isaacs and Debra Mikels; one brother, Mike, and a stillborn granddaughter Lydia. She married Edward Fordyce Feb. 6, 1965. Her faith in Jesus Christ and her family were the most valued gifts in her life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon, where she was active in the Bible Study, and the Women of Words Book Club and was a past member of the New Century Club.

Wayne. Hockemeyer and iller Funeral Home, Ft. Wayne, was in charge of arrangements. Victor M. Kamprath was born Wednesday, July 26, 1916, in Bloomfield, the son of scar and Martha Kamprath.

He graduated from Concordia River Forest, Valparaiso and St. Francis Universities. He was a World War II veteran. He taught for 42 years, retiring in 1981 from St. Lutheran School.

He had a very active retirement, developing the Golden Heirs senior group for his church, which took many trips and held monthly activities. assisted in creat- ing Aboite Lutheran hurch from a mission start to a thriving cong regation. He moved to St. Anne Home Apartments in 2001and organ ized many activities while living there. He was always look- i ng to make things better for all people.

His ain purpose later in life was caring for his oving wife and family. He showed his love and support to the family ith his gift of organizing trips and reunions, creating a strong family ond. Kamprath is survived by his children, en (Liz) Kamprath, Menasha, Ju- dyAnn (Richard) Sta- nerson, South Amana; Becky (LeRoy) Maholovich, Eureka, Dave Kamprath and Marie (John) James, all Ft. ayne; one sister, Loretta Rusch, Missouri, and two brothers, Elmer, Iowa, and Don, California; 10 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren. He is in Heaven, reunited with many dear friends and family who preceded him in death, especially his wife of 60 years, Esther B.

Lloyd Leo Schropp was born June 3, 1928, in Johnson County, the son of Willie and Tillie (Feyerbend) Schropp. He attended rural school.

He married Mary Colleen Duffy June 7, 1952, at the St. Joseph Rectory, Parnell. In his early years, he farmed, then rove a truck until his retirement. He then went to work for the Williamsburg Rec Center, which he truly enjoyed. He enjoyed garden- i ng, going to the casino, watching westerns, fish- i ng, hunting mushrooms, going to the sport- i ng events and helping his sons with their projects.

chropp is survived by his wife, Colleen, Conr oy; six children, Lloyd (Bennie Jo) Schropp, arnell; Pam (Dale) Walter, Williamsburg; Larry (Patti) Schropp, Parnell; enny (Troy) Seaver, North Liberty; Paula Schropp, Conroy, and ohn Schropp, Parnell; 17 grandchildren, Kristy Schropp, Chad Schropp, achary Schropp, Gary Walter, Angela Wilson, Molly Paugh, Sara Schropp, Jeremy Schropp, Abby Jordan, Quinn Seaver, Jacob Cox, Nicholas Schropp, Leah Schropp, Miranda A lbaugh, Lauren Schropp, Jalen Schropp and Lincoln Schropp; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Meade, Holbrook, and Patricia Martens, Williamsburg, and one brother, Dean (Frances) Schropp, Williamsburg. She worked as a dispatcher for the Oskaloosa Police Department or five years and also worked at Schanz Furniture, Amana, as a bookkeeper. he married Jerry Ferguson June 24, 1978, a the Christian Church, Oskaloosa. She was a ember of the Christian Church, Oskaloosa; the Royal Neighbors and the of I Club. She enjoyed Uof I sports, reading and crossword puzzles. erguson is survived by several nieces and nephews and one broth- r-in-law, Darrell Ferguson, Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Glenn Doud, and her second husband, Jerry Ferguson, on June 13, 2013. Helen Ferguson, 90.
