Page 8A Des Moines Register Obituaries Submit an obituary and search a database of recent bituaries at DesMoinesRegister.com/obituaries Pierce Coady passed peacefully on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the age of 76. He was a loving husband and father, and a doting grandfather. He was loved deeply and will be missed greatly. Visitation will be held at Iles Westover Chapel, on Friday, December 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a Vigil beginning at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St.

Augustin Catholic Church in Des Moines on Saturday, December 21, at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery. Pete was born to Robert and Catherine (Sheedy) Coady, and was raised on a farm in Melrose, Iowa. He graduated from Russell High School in 1955. He enlisted in the Army in 1958, where he was a member of the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, NC.

He married Charlene Watkins in Albia, IA in 1963. They made their home in Des Moines where they raised their children. They recently celebrated 50 years of marriage on October 5, 2013. Pete worked for the Des Moines Fire Department for 20 years until he retired in 1986. He was also the owner of Coady Construction Company.

He was a member of St. Augustin Catholic Church, where he was a Eucharistic minister and usher for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Catherine, his siblings Dorothy Ann, Mary, William, and Patrick, and his beloved son Michael. He is survived by his wife Charlene, his children Pierce Jr. (Ginny) of Ames, Laurie Bruner (Chris) of West Des Moines, Susan Rowling (Jason) of Davidson, NC, and Sandra Montie (Dwayne) of Palm City, FL; his grandchildren Olivia and Max Bruner, James, Jackson, and Abigail Rowling, and Emma Montie; his siblings Eileen Spencer of Albia, Robert (Doris) Coady of Urbandale, Jack (Ann) Coady of Solon, Donna (Tony) Humeston of Albia, Larry (Sandi) Coady of Des Moines, and sister-in- law Marlys Coady of Apple Valley, MN.

Online condolences may be shared at IlesCares.com. PIERCE JOSEPH COADY West Des Moines Linda Lee Auch passed away at the age of 68 on Sunday, December 15, 2013. After a heroic fight with her health, she was finally able to close her eyes and drift off peacefully to her eternal rest with all of her family by her side. Linda is survived by her children: Vicki Hemry and her partner, Russ, Michael (Mynde) Auch, Terri (Jack) Kimmel, and Tina (Eric) Vanzee, 15 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and her father, Clayton.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby VanderPool and her youngest son, Billy Auch. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. LINDA LEE AUCH Des Moines Retta Ann Smith, 60, died Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 19, at the Trinity Lutheran Church near Van Meter with burial in the church cemetery. A visitation with family present will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 18 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. RETTA ANN SMITH rural Van Meter Jeffrey George Manatt, 55, of Kirkland, Washington, passed away November 13, 2013, in his sleep of natural causes. A memorial mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 23, at St. Catholic Church in Grinnell with Rev. Tim Manatt and Rev.

Ron Hodges officiating. Burial will be in the Manatt Mausoleum at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. A reception will follow the mass at the Grinnell Country Club. Visitation with the family present has been scheduled from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Jeff was born in Iowa on July 3, 1958 to Merlin and Verna George Manatt. He is survived by his father Merlin Manatt of Grinnell; his daughter Jai Genevieve and partner Amy Birk of Victoria, British Columbia; two brothers Bradford Manatt (Mary) of Newton; Tony Manatt (Piper) of DeWitt; three sisters Michelle Manatt of Minneapolis, Molly Manatt Hier (Robert) of Castle Rock, Colorado and Julie Manatt of Eden Prairie, Minnesota and eight nephews and four nieces. Jeffrey graduated from the University of Iowa with a business degree and was employed in the Information Technology Systems industry in sales and worked primarily in Vancouver, B.C., Victoria, B.C. and Seattle, Washington.

Jeff will be well-remembered for his love of people. He was a man full of kindness and everywhere he went he touched the hearts of many. Jeff was a hardworking, positive man who enjoyed every second of his life. He had a passion for music, sports, travel and most of all his family. Jeff found happiness in entertaining others and always welcomed his friends and their friends into his life and home.

Above all, Jeff was a dedicated and loving father to Jai. JEFFREY GEORGE MANATT Grinnell Mary Canice Richards, 85, of North Little Rock went to be with the Lord, Sunday, December 15, 2013. She was born in Bernard, IA to the late Edward and Mary (Gaffney) Grace. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert Richards, and two brothers, Al and Clete Grace. Mary worked for many years as a bookkeeper while in Iowa and Arkansas.

Her last position was with North Little Rock Advertising and Promotions where she worked for many years. Mary was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was active in the Alter Society. She was also a member of the Rhubarb Club and enjoyed attending the Shepherd Center and the Hayes Senior Center. Survivors includes two sons; Steve Richards of Texarkana, TX and Phillip Richards (Dayna) of Ft. Smith.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, December 19 at Iles Chapel followed by a 3 p.m. graveside service at the Waukee Cemetery. Marcella was born July 19, 1926 in Waukee to Harvey and Mary (Williamson) Boll and lived there all of her life.

She worked for over 40 years at the Colonial Bakery in Des Moines. She will be remembered as a hardworking woman who was dedicated to her family and friends. Those left to cherish memory include her son, Pat (Lynda) Moran of Mingo; two daughters, Mary of Des Moines and Juanita Moran of Waukee; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and brother, Merle Boll. She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick J. Moran; six brothers and one sister.

MORAN Waukee Betsy Lemon, 70, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 under the care of Mercy Hospice with her loving family by her side. Betsy was born March 13, 1943 in Bryants Store, Kentucky, the daughter of Manford and Lois (Carter) Collett. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, baking, writing poetry, attending markets and especially spending time with her family.

Betsy is survived by her daughters, Karen (Brian) Kelso and Susan (Dwane) Peterson; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Erin, Emily, Bradley, Daniel, Chelsea and Dylan; great-grandchildren, Cailee, Jacob and Bella; brother, Jim (Sharon) Legere; mother- in-law, Marjorie Lemon; and aunt, Mary Jo Logan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, John Lemon; her parents; son, Michael; and brother, Don. There will be a celebration of life held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines followed by a 2:00 p.m.

BETSY LEMON West Des Moines Daniel Harold Cosgriff, 81, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013 in Plano, TX. Services will be held 1:30 p.m.

Friday at St. Episcopal Church in West Des Moines, IA with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Dan was raised on a farm outside of Tipton, Iowa; a lifestyle he treasured.

After receiving his degree from the University of Iowa, Dan completed his ROTC military obligation at Fort Carson, CO. A brief retail career took his young family to Casper, Wyoming. He returned to Iowa in the late moving to Des Moines and joining the Darwin T. Lynner Real Estate firm. His real estate career led to the founding of Cosgriff Construction.

Cosgriff Construction developed and built residential property throughout the Des Moines area for almost 30 years. Dan was active in the Des Moines Homebuilders Association, including serving as president. Dan was a religious man. He served on the Vestry of St. Andrews Episcopal Church while raising his family.

In later years, he belonged to St. Episcopal Church, and volunteered with The FreeStore. Dan enjoyed living on an acreage, more so to watch the deer at twilight than to mow. He treasured his time with friends: Saturday night cards, the weekly round of golf, weekends at the lake house, and vacations. And, joking with brother Robert.

Dan married Eileen Kiser, the mother of Carolyn and David, in June, 1955. Eileen was a Tipton High School classmate. She passed away in 1964, and Dan married Patsy Weidner, the mother of DawnKae and Brad, in March, 1965. Pat passed away in 2004. Their Australian Shepherd, Missy, became his treasured companion.

Survivors include the four children, Brad, Clear Lake, Carolyn, Dallas, TX, David, Johnston, and DawnKae, Grimes; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a nephew; two nieces; and six great-nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, Eileen Kiser Cosgriff and Patsy Lou Weidner Cosgriff, Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth (Bessie) and Harold, and siblings Dorthea Vazis, Richard Cosgriff, and Robert Cosgriff. In lieu of the family suggests contributions to Living History Farms, Urbandale, IA; Mercy Hospital Foundation, Des Moines, IA; or The FreeStore, Des Moines, IA. DANIEL HAROLD COSGRIFF Plano, Texas (formerly of Des Moines) Rosemary Creger St rawn, 86, died December 11, 2013. She was born in Truro, Iowa May 23, 1927 daughter of the late Forrest and Marjorie Creger.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dale and grandson Richard Dale Strawn II. She is survived by two sons, Richard Strawn and his wife Sharon of Lutz, Florida and Tim Strawn and his wife Deborah of Roanoke, Virginia, 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and other extended family and friends. ROSEMARY STRAWN Truro Nancy J. (Dullard) Carter, 72 was born July 27, 1941 in Des Moines and went to be with the Lord on December 15, 2013. She enjoyed chatting with her friends and family, cooking her Italian peppers. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Dullard who was killed in a plane crash in 1980.

She is survived by her children; Deanna (Tom) Moore, Joni Harding, Kelly Williamson and John Dullard; ten grandchildren, one great granddaughter and her sister, Joy Nagel. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 19, 2013 with Mass of Christian Burial at 7 pm at Our Immaculate Heart Church in Ankeny. Nancy will be cremated following the services and the burial of her cremated remains will be at a later date. Nancy was an inspiration to us and showed us unending strength on her journey with breast cancer. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in loving memory of Nancy.
